Blues Brothers actress Dalyce Curry dies in LA wildfires

Retired actress Dalyce Curry, known for her roles in The Blues Brothers, The Ten Commandments, and Lady Sings the Blues, tragically lost her life in the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires. Curry, who was 95, was found deceased after her Altadena home was destroyed by the flames.

The confirmation came through a heartfelt Facebook post from her great-granddaughter, Dalyce Kelley, on Sunday, January 12. “About an hour ago the coroner confirmed her remains were indeed found at the property. #RIPMOMMADEE 🕊️,” Kelley wrote. “We had a great run. She impacted my life in so many ways. This loss is devastating.”

Curry, affectionately known as “Momma D,” was last seen by Kelley on Tuesday evening when she was dropped off at her home, unaware of the devastating fires that would engulf the area. Early the next morning, Kelley rushed to check on her grandmother but was stopped by a police barricade. She learned that the property had been completely destroyed.

In a desperate search, Kelley went to the Pasadena Civic Center, where displaced residents were being assisted, but Curry was not among those found there. Days later, the tragic confirmation came that Curry had perished in the fire.

Family members remembered Curry as vibrant and full of life. “She was very active,” her granddaughter, Loree Beamer-Wilkinson, told ABC7. “You would not think she was 95.”

Curry’s legacy extends beyond her family, with a notable career in Hollywood and her contributions to beloved films. She was a trailblazer who left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.

As of Sunday, January 12, the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles County had claimed the lives of at least 24 people, leaving countless others displaced and grieving. The tragic loss of Dalyce Curry underscores the personal and cultural toll of these devastating fires.
